THE INTERNATIONAL BALTIC CIRCLE THEATRE FESTIVAL

The second Baltic Circle Theatre Festival is organised in Helsinki between 21 and 30 November. The festival will showcase a selection of brand new productions from the Baltic Sea Region. In addition to the shows, you can indulge yourself with our clubs, film viewings, and reading theatre performances, and let yourself be provoked at open forums.

FRESHNESS GUARANTEED
In November you’ll have a chance to join the vanguard of the theatrical front. The Baltic Circle won’t offer a sample of shows long forgotten. Half of the productions featured during the festival are still being rehearsed!
During the opening weekend, the festival will showcase novelties of the Finnish theatrical season. On Monday 24 Nov. the spotlight will turn to international productions. Delicacies from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Russia, Germany, and Poland will provide much food for thought and you’re bound to find your emotional gauge redlining.

EXCHANGE OF BACTERIA
The Baltic Circle Network brings together theatre makers from the Baltic Sea Region. Since 1996 the Baltic Circle has organised dozens of international co-productions and visits. The November Festival will provide theatre audience and makers with a forum for intense discussions. Where do we come from? Where are we going? Who are we? Can we find a common ground and tune to the same wavelength?
This is an open invitation to exchange bacteria!

The hub of the Baltic Circle will be the premises of the Q Theatre in Töölö, Helsinki. The festival has strongholds also at the premises of the KokoTheatre, Alexander Theatre, Takomo Theatre, and Media Centre Lume.

WHAT AND WHERE?
The Baltic Circle Festival Programme will be published on Tuesday 14 Oct. 2003. Ticket sales will begin at the end of October.
Welcome to revisit our site then!

I N T R O D U C T I O N

Out of curiosity - in a new way: An informal network of theatrical communities of the Baltic Sea region based on personal contacts.

Q-teatteri started to organize the Baltic Circle festival in 1996 and the first stage of the project was finally concluded in 2000.
The emphasis of the festival was not to look for sure hits, but to promote theatrical diversity and to create a fruitful atmosphere for unique performances, and provide them with the attention they deserve. Besides 17 guest performances, the festival consisted of three international workshops, clubs and seminars promoting international contacts and networking.

We all bathe in the same bathtub - the Baltic Sea. We all ask the same questions in our art. It is now time to present our different answers.
