Baltic Circle Festival has something to offer to film enthusiasts as well. On Thursday 27th November there is an evening of film screenings at Q-teatteri. Each of the three films is linked one way or the other to the world of Baltic Circle. In Cleaning Up! a Finnish indie band tours Eastern Europe. Viesturs Kairiss, director of the Latvian film Leaving by the Way, visited previous Baltic Circle Festival as a theatre director. The poetic South.Border has its roots at the famed Derevo Theatre.

In addition to the films, there will be nonstop video screenings at the Puoli-Q festival centre on Saturday 29th November. Amongst the videos will be Esto TV’s unsensored and brutally honest portrayal of Finns, and Finnish cult favorite Studio Julmahuvi: Jeriko 2000.

South.Border is inspired by unpublished texts of Jorge Luis Borges. The film is a black-and-white cinematic poem. It is a surrealist reportage on a journey to south, to a border. Its influences range from Russian surrealism to Salvador Dali. The film was shot in Italy, Georgia, The Netherlands and Germany. Director Anton Adassinskij is the artistic director of Derevo Theatre. In Finland, Adassinskiji's plays have been performed e.g. at Tampere Theatre Festival.

Anton Adassinskij talks about the philosophy behind the film:

"One time you find yourself in a park, on a bench, looking into space, and for a second you forget which country you are in, whether it's morning or evening; you are pierced by a pang of loneliness, your heart becomes light and sad, what is important separates out from all the noise of the world, and the slipping, sliding shadows fill with meaning profound...Words come to mind..."South. Border" is my present to myself, a little window to the house I will never be able to build, a house of silver and light."
