The latest addition to Baltic Circle Festival
are Public Readings. The idea for organising them arose from the
fact that new foreign dramas premiered annually in Finnish theatres
are mostly of Western European origin. New plays from e.g. Russia,
Baltic countries and Poland are completely missing from Finnish
theatres repertoires. One could also reverse the situation:
does new Finnish drama have life outside Finland?
Public Reading sessions will be held three times
during the festival. New texts come from Finland, Russia, Latvia
and Lithuania. Excerpts from the plays will be read by Finnish actors,
and they are directed by select students from Theatre Academy in
Helsinki. Some of the authors and translators will also be present
at the readings.
There is an open forum discussion included in
each of the readings. Discussions
will be led by artistic director Erik Söderblom.
Public Readings at Q-teatteri, Puoli-Q stage,
Tunturikatu 16.
