Genesis No. 2 by Teatr Praktika is dealing with a serious issue; schizophrenia, with sparkling humour. The play has been made in collaboration with Antonina Velikanova, a former math-teacher, and current patient in a mental hospital. Velikanova sent to Viripayev her first sketches for an alternative Book of Genesis, telling the story of creation as she sees it now. The lively correspondence which ensued between the two authors forms the basis for this play. It also reminds, that the serious psychological illness is often a patients way to interpret the laws of the universe. At the same time she creates herself a totally unique world.
Praktika is a new theatre venue and company focused on contemporary drama. Their main mission is to reflect modern reality in all it´s complexity and to address the questions and issues that are of burning importance for the contemporary society. Current relevancy of material and it´s presentation are the both ideological and artistic aims of the theatre. Praktika is intended to become an unique cultural centre , where theatre, cinematography, art, videoart, contemporary art and IT will intertwine and blend into each other. The individual and the state, the life of an ethnos and urbanism, wars and religion, ethics and amoralism are among the topics in the spotlight of theatre´s attention.
