Pig and Runt are little Bonnie and Clyde of Eastern Helsinki. They are inseparable from birth, almost telepathic. They think they are kings of the world and all they need is a good beat. Ordinary people are just for appetite of recklessness, exploration and destruction. But on their 17th birthday Pig gives Runt a present that makes her to ask if love is freedom and freedom is just a bubble.
Disco Pigs takes the audience to the private universe of two young ones where there is no empathy and worries of tomorrow. The play is about hardness of growing up and the story is told with full intensity and with no excuses. It is a leap in the middle of youth where feelings and insensibility are struggling, love is eternal and friendship is demanding.
Disco Pigs, written by Irish play writer Enda Walsh, was played the first time in 1996 and has been translated to 12 languages. It has won several prizes and is also filmed in year 2001. Akseli Ensemble's version of Disco Pigs is translated to Finnish by Aleksi Milonoff. It follows the original thought where the fast pace of speaking is one important thing of characters mutual understanding.
Akseli Ensemble is an artist community found in 2004 and producing mainly theatrical representations. Earlier productions include Mitä te odotatte (spoken word & music), Ranta (original play) and Osittain julkista (TV documentary).
