Mikko Orpana's Man-Machine studies the relationship between man and machine. Is the technology a friend or a foe? How does our humanity change while our everyday life is in increasing tempo handled by the computers? Can we keep up the pace? Should we be more alert with the technology and it's development? Is the man still in control or has the machine taken the driver's seat? Garry Kasparov lost the chess-match against IBM's Deep Blue chess-computer in 1997 and last year the Chinook -computer totally resolved the chequers, so it can't be defeated by human being anymore. But how long it will take the artificial intelligence to really challenge the human mind? Man-Machine combines dance, theatre, electronic music and video in a performance, where man and machine work simultaneously both with and against each other. Man-Machine is an observation into the present - a performance that leaves you with something to think about.
