Nikolai Kojlada (born 1957) is the indisputable father of modern Russian playwriting. Koljada has written over 90 plays and his work has greatly influenced the growth and development of Russian modern drama.

The Hen (Kuritsa), Koljada’s play from 1989, is a skillful and current update on Chekhov. "The Hen" is situated in the theater world, more specifically in a small Siberian theater during the last years of Soviet Union. In KokoTeatteri’s adaptation Siberia is subtly transformed into Helsinki.

Koljada has invited KokoTeatteri to perform in Jekaterinburg’s “Koljada Plays” -theatre festival on the 17th and 18th of June. KokoTeatteri will also perform in Moscow’s “Otkritaja stsena”-Open Stage on the 15th of June 2008.

KokoTeatteri is a free independent professional theatre company which was established in 1997. By the end of year 2007, KokoTeatteri has produced more than 60 premieres that range from drama to contemporary dance. KokoTeatteri has 50 members; actors, dancers, musicians. Around 40 artists work within KokoTeatteri annually. Apart from its own dance and theatre program, theatre also hosts visiting performances.
