Dinner in the Dark is sheer inspiration for the senses - it is the first performance in Finland to combine sound art and dinner in a darkened restaurant. Darkness sensitizes one's hearing and one's sense of taste, bringing out more flavours in the food and more
dimensions to the music. The dinner, which will have both a meat and a vegetarian option, is an oriental-influenced three-course meal developed by Restaurant Farang. The Uninvited Visitor, a sound art piece by Kimmo Modig will be played during the dinner, transporting the audience to real and imagined cities and streets abounding with life
Dinner in the Dark is a concept developed by Baltic Circle and Radioteatteri of YLE, the Finnish Broadcasting Company. YLE Radio 1 will record the dinner and broadcast it on the Ääniversumi programme
on 23 November at 11 pm. Kimmo Modig has composed the material for Dinner in the Dark using his own ”sound-diaries” from different cities such as Göteborg, Turku and London.
Darkened restaurants have become popular world wide, and can be found in e.g. Switzerland, Germany, and the United States.
