50 Lovely Ways to Die

50 Lovely Ways to Die consists of different stories in which people die or are willing to die because of love. The stories come from everyday life as well as from ancient myths and legends. There is a hint of tragedy and plenty of humour and playfulness in the performance; the subject turns into a series of charming and even comical encounters on stage. If one has to die anyway, why not do it in the name of love? The leading roles are played by volunteers with no previous theatre experience. Dance artist Pia Karaspuro and writer-directors Kaja Kann and Juha Valkeapää are also taking part in the performance.

Kaja Kann is an Estonian choreographer and director. She has worked with different performing art forms and her work has been seen worldwide, from New York to Iisaku. She was granted the Estonian award for Best Dance Choreography of the Year in 2002 and from 2004 to 2006.

Juha Valkeapää is a vocal and performance artist whose main instrument is his own voice. He has performed around the world making vocal, sound and performance art. He has also worked in theatre, music and dance and created sound installations, soundscapes and compositions for exhibitions, radio, theatre and dance performances. In 2008, Valkeapää got a three-year grant from the Finnish Cultural Foundation, and in 2007 he was given the Arts Council of Helsinki Metropolitan Region Art Award.
