Anatomia Lear

Anatomia Lear is a non-verbal puppet performance inspired by Shakespeare's King Lear with professional actors and puppets on stage. It is a study of the aging Lear and his daughters operating in visual landscapes located between reality and dream; estranged and deranged. The diagnosis emerges through black humour.
The performance seizes the moment before Lear’s death, entering the memories of past deeds which lead to the present moment. Loneliness, fear of death and reconciliation are key themes in the performance. Anatomia Lear is intended for an adult audience and combines expressive visuals and sounds. It was awarded the Antonia Prize 2009 at Hangö Teaterträff Festival in June 2009.

Anatomia Lear's ensemble is alumni of The International Theatre School Jacques Lecoq, Paris, The Theatre Academy, Helsinki, and The University of Art and Design, Helsinki. The group is based in Helsinki. Previously, the ensemble created the puppet theatre production Evig sommar / Ikuinen kesä (”Eternal Summer”). This production was aimed at children and elderly audiences and toured kindergartens and retirement homes in Nyland and Österbotten 2004-2006.
