Jealous of A Dog's Vein

A night of two butoh dance pieces includes the solo piece Jealous of a dog’s vein and the duet Pakeneva raja.

Jealous of a dog’s vein

"I adore rib cages but, again, it seems to me that a dog's rib cage is superior to mine." - Tatsumi Hijikata

The solo work of Akseli Aittomäki takes as its starting point and inspiration the writings of the founder of butoh, Tatsumi Hijikata. The translated excerpts of Hijikata’s writing are fragments of a powerful legend that has inspired countless artists around the world, despite the fact that Hijikata himself never left Japan. The performance is a personal interpretation of the meaning of this legend in a time, place and culture distant from its source.

Pakeneva raja

The piece by dancers Minja Mertanen, Elina Lauttamäki and musician Tatu Rönkkö involves the transformation of body into material, and a constant change toward the unattainable. The work derives its influences from contemporary visual art and installation, and attempts to extend the ability of the body to take on another physical condition.

Teatteri Naamio ja Höyhen is driven by the desire to test the possibilities of theatre. We specialise in contemporary theatre, experimental approaches and border areas between the genres of performing arts. Continuous study of different traditions and concepts for theatre is the basis of our work. Our aim is to find a unique way of working for every project, and the performances we have created so far represent a diverse range in aesthetics, with elements such as physicality, visuality, mystery, a non-psychological approach, and a departure from the conventional logic of plot as representing the common thread in the work.
