Winter War Drama Reading

The Winter War drama reading is co-authored by Finnish and Russian playwrights. The script was born out of Baltic Circle's Winter War Workshop project, bringing together playwrights from the neighbouring countries with the intention of producing a dramatic text about the war. Although it is generally well-known in Finland, the Winter War is a silenced and obscure subject in Russia. The workshop commenced at the 2007 Baltic Circle festival and continued during the 2008 festival. Finnish playwrights were invited to Russia by their colleagues at Teatr.doc in spring 2009 and the text was performed in Russian in Moscow. It will be performed in Finnish for the first time at this year's festival.
